Symbolism

This week, we have been looking at symbols in The Alchemist. As we have learned, authors choose symbols to represent ideas and concepts.
 For your first blog entry, choose an abstract concept (freedom, jealousy, respect, education, etc.) then choose a symbol to represent that concept. In one paragraph, explain why you chose that symbol to represent the concept. In your entry, include an picture or photo of that symbol.

Why are we blogging?

I am sure that many of you are wondering, 'Why are we doing this? Why are we setting up  Google accounts? Why does everyone have to set up a blog?' These are all good questions. Your Google account will help you to organize and communicate efficiently. You'll be able to store your assignments and access them from home.

In addition, the blog will provide an authentic audience for your writing. In the past, your reading audience was usually your teacher or a few friends. With a blog, your audience expands to your peers (since we will be following each other's blogs), your teacher, other staff and students within the CCTS community and of course, your parents. If you are worried about publishing your work for a wider audience, don't worry. You will not be asked to publish until the piece is in great shape!
